Backups run every day, and nobody has to remember to start them. Encryption at rest means a spare copy does not become a leak waiting to happen. Because those copies live away from the shop, a fire or a dead disk in the workshop does not take the records with it. A shop that loses its records loses its evidence, not merely its convenience.

You can export your data at any time, in a format you can read without us. That matters for two reasons. First, it is your regulatory evidence, and 14 CFR 145.219 expects a repair station to keep it for at least two years after return to service. Second, software you cannot walk away from is software you cannot really trust.

What the MRO data backup software actually copies

A backup here is two things, not one. The database goes first, then the file storage underneath it: the certificates, the signed checklists, the work packages and every attachment. Both travel to a separate backup server, and neither copy stays on the shop’s own machine. Each run writes its own timestamped directory, alongside a manifest of sizes and checksums. The backup server then verifies the transfer against that manifest, before the relay clears its own copy.

Nothing is pruned, so an older copy stays reachable rather than rolling off the end of a window. A backup also runs before every release, which is exactly when a database is most likely to change shape. The audit trail then has a rule of its own. Six months stay live. After that the system exports older months to compressed archive files. It counts the rows it wrote, then removes them.
